    How best to describe the music of Stout Rebellion? The band's leader, Bobby Waller, prefers to compare it with that of bands such as the Pogues or Flogging Molly, calling it "traditional Irish music with rock intensity." Stout Rebellion plays for Thunder Valley's St. Patrick's Day party Saturday. You can expect no crying-in-your-green-beer music.

    "We've been together nearly four years now. This is our third St. Patrick's Day. I came up with the name of the band, but I admit it was due to what I call a lot of market research. At first, I decided we'd call ourselves Whiskey Rebellion, but then found out there were about 20 other Irish bands with that name. So, I took the Irish whiskey idea, that being a beverage that immediately comes to mind when Irish is mentioned, and then thought of Guinness which also comes to mind. Guinness is a stout, so there you have it."

    Evidently, the idea of the Troubles and actual Irish rebellion did not come to mind, but "I think the name is bold and brave, and actually Stout is my mother's Celtic family name."
